Residents seeking payback from Explo

Concerned citizens affected by Explo System Inc.'s October 15 explosion and an inspection of Explo's lease where more than six million pounds of improperly stored explosive propellant was located, have started the process of seeking restitution.

Attorney Kyle Robinson met with current and would-be clients Wednesday at Minden Civic Center to discuss the process.

"We plan to take action to protect the people we are representing," Robinson said. "One of the things the people of this community realize is there is strength in numbers.

"The people of this community are resilient and they stick together," he continued. "We want to make sure our clients are helped expediently."

Robinson said his clients and others, many of whom have been out of their homes for almost a week, have voiced inquiries to which no satisfactory answers are yet available.

"Many of them had questions that haven't been able to be answered at this point," he said. "What we overwhelmingly heard was gratitude for responding officials.

"Sheriff (Gary) Sexton, (Doyline Police) Chief (Robert) Hayden, members of the Louisiana State Police and other agencies, which are all amazing, are working diligently to keep the citizens safe and try to defuse the situation and the dangers it has caused," Robinson continued. "I continue to hear clients and people in the area express their appreciation for those officials and agencies."

One of the things Robinson will pursue is evacuation cost for his clients.

"This is Christmas time, and a lot of people save up before Christmas, hoping to buy presents," he said. "This is a burden and a real problem."

Some in attendance at Wednesday night's meeting were already Robinson's clients. Others signed on after speaking with him.

"We don't want to exclude anyone who might believe they have a claim," Robinson said. "We will work with each person and do the best we can to find out who is actually affected and who is not."

Robinson & Williams is a Bossier City firm.
