Mary Olive Moore Hebert

Mary Olive Moore Hebert, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 27, 2012, at Cypress Glen Retirement Community in Greenville, North Carolina, surrounded by her loving children.

Mary was born in Winnfield and grew up in Minden. She was the daughter of the late Luther Carter and Ida Louise Wallace Moore.

Following graduation from Minden High School, Mary attended and graduated from Louisiana College in Pineville. While in college, she was part of the Louisiana College Trio, which performed at many area churches and for servicemen during the war.

After college, she met and married Fred J. Hebert, Jr. in 1948. Fred and Mary moved to Baton Rouge in 1957 for Fred to take position with the Federal Highway Administration.

Fred and Mary were active members of Goodwood Baptist Church, and later of Broadmoor Baptist Church in Baton Rouge. Mary served as choir director and led the music ministry at Goodwood Baptist.

At Broadmoor Baptist, she sang in the choir, played in the handbell choir and accompanied many groups, such as the Broadmoor Belles and served in many leadership capacities including attending state Baptist conventions, serving on numerous committees, chairing committees, and teaching Sunday school.

Mary was always interested in learning more about her faith and was an active participant in the church's outreach ministries, such as the Southeast Ministries of Baton Rouge.

For several years, Mary studied the Bible under Father Jacques, taught English as a second language to internationals and started a Sunday school class at Broadmoor Baptist in her late 70's. Fred and Mary moved to Greenville, North Carolina in 2006 to be near their son and daughter-in-law, where they were members of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 62 years, Fred J. Hebert, Jr.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Barbara Hebert of Greenville, North Carolina; a daughter, Marianne Hebert of Baton Rouge; a sister, Ethel May Moore Emmons of Waco, Texas; a brother, Luther W. Moore and his wife, Claire of Minden; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Hebert Wilson of Bossier City; a sister-in-law, Anne Foley Hebert of Chicago, Illinois; several nieces and nephews; four grandchildren, Davis Hebert and his wife, Tammy of Charlotte, North Carolina; Mary Hebert Dawson and her husband, Brian of Abingdon, Virginia; Emilie Hebert Williams and her husband, Jamie of Asheville, North Carolina; Carissa Cervantez Weaver and her husband, Michael of Rowlett, Texas; four great-grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. on Friday, June 1, 2012 at Rabenhorst-East Funeral Home, 11000 Florida Boulevard, Baton Rouge.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Rabenhorst-East.

Interment will follow at Greenoaks Cemetery in Baton Rouge. Memorials may be sent to the Music Ministry of Broadmoor Baptist Church, 9755 Goodwood Boulevard, Baton Rouge, La. 70815.
