GlenbrookVsCenla9Apaches make South State Finals, advance to State Tournament

RAYVILLE — The Glenbrook Apaches advanced to the Class A State Championship Tournament with a 67-65 overtime win over Franklin Academy on Friday night.

The win also advanced the Apaches to the South A Title game, where they lost to Cenla Academy, 80-65.

"I was real proud of my kids," Glenbrook head coach Todd Spurlock said. "It was one of those games, it was an uncontrollable environment. There were three or four technicals called and there could have been even more. But my kids controlled their emotions and kept playing hard."

The Apaches had to deal with an added distraction, as teammate Jalen Patterson quit the team during halftime.

"The kids really overcame some adversity," Spurlock said. "They had a teammate quit on them at halftime, but they came out and played with a lot of determination in the second half. They came out and played competitive against a more talented team, and kept it close in the second half."

The Apaches trailed 39-27 at the half, before losing 80-65.

Cade Spurlock led the team with 30 points.

"These kids really won my heart in this game," Todd Spurlock said. "They played hard and never game up.

Friday night, the Apaches beat Franklin Academy, 67-65, in overtime. Cade Spurlock led the team with 19 points.

The Apaches will play again today, as they take on the #3 seeded Mt. Salus Eagles at Rebul Academy in Learned, Mississippi at 6:30 p.m. in the State Tournament.

"We're looking forward to going over there and competing," Spurlock said. "Our goal is to make it to the Final Four and see what happens. We're just going to stay on track and keep playing hard. Anything can happen when you get to this point."
