Fibrebond donates to ACS

Fibrebond Corporation presented the American Cancer Society with a donation of $5,056.34 on May 10 at the company’s headquarters in Minden.

The money was raised in support  of the American Cancer Society’s annual Relay for Life event in Webster Parish.
Twelve employees  teamed to raise $2,528.17, which Fibrebond agreed to match.

“I am extremely pleased with the level or participation and thoughtfulness from everyone here at  Fibrebond,” said Todd Walker, Fibrebond President and CEO. “It was great to see us all come together and get involved for such a great cause.”

Employees hosted two in-house fund-raising events to bring in money for the American Cancer Society.

In  March, Fibrebond employees donated 25 cakes to auction off and raised $1,356, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. In April, a hamburger plate fund-raiser brought in an additional $1,142.

During the Relay for Life event on April 15 in downtown Minden, an additional $30.17 was raised by selling bags of popcorn, bringing the team total to $2,528.17.

Relay for Life is a family-oriented community gathering put on by the American Cancer Society to encourage people to join the fight against cancer and raise awareness within a community.

Funds raised during the event support cancer research and programs and resources for local cancer patients.

From September 2009 through August 2010, the American Cancer Society provided 10,946 free services and 1,943 cancer patients. Among those, 100 patients were from Webster Parish.

Each year, more than 4,500 relays are planned by the American Cancer Society volunteers around the world.
