Please Return the Tombstone to the Grave

Dear Editor:

In late 1818 several groups of settlers came to the area of what is now Minden. The Murrell family came from Tennessee and settled around Flat Lick. The Drew and Bonner families, and a few others not named, came to what became Overton.

To find what was once the village of Overton one can drive along I-20, eastbound, from Dixie Inn to Minden and stop at the top of the hill that precedes the highway 371 intersection. Walk up the uphill grade going south, look over the fence, and that area was part of Overton. The cemetery can be accessed via Tom Chrichton Road.
