Lakeside gets win, Minden eliminated

Warriors move on to play Sterlington Tuesday

The Lakeside Warriors and Minden Crimson Tide began their LHSAA baseball playoffs Thursday, with the two teams heading in different directions.

The Warriors hosted North Caddo and shut out the Rebels, 5-0,  and will advance to Tuesday’s second round.

baseballThe Tide meanwhile had to travel to Haughton to face their district rivals, Haughton High School, and the Crimson Tide were beaten 10-5 by the Bucs.

Lakeside 5, North Caddo 0

At Sibely, Lakeside used three pitchers to shut out North Caddo and limited them to just one hit. Preston Gray took the win.

“We split it up between the three of them,” Lakeside coach Bob Gray said. “It was a good performance, which was good because we didn’t swing the bat very well.”

Lakeside scored a run in the bottom of the first inning and then two in the fourth and single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Austin Ashley led the team with two doubles and Garrett Lambert and Koty Monday each had triples. Preston Gray and Tyler Wallace added base hits.

The Warriors will now move on to play at Sterlington on Tuesday.

“That’s going to be a big ball game and a big test for us,” Gray said. “Sterlington has always got a good ball team and they are a veteran playoff team. We’re going to have to take care of business if we want to live beyond that ball game.”

Haughton 10, Minden 5

At Haughton, the Bucs built up a 9-0 lead before the Minden bats battled back for five runs in the final two innings to make the final, 10-5.

Hunter Leppert hit a two-run home run in the sixth and then the Tide scored three times in the top of the seventh.

Leppert had the home run and three RBIs to lead the Tide, and Coltan Haynes added a pair of singles. Derek Herrington had two hits and Turner Francis added a single. Sam Shoemaker also had a RBI-single.
