NATCHITOCHES —The Lakeside Warrior Cross-Country teams completed a successful season as the ladies placed eighth and the men were fifth at the AA State meet at NSU.
There were 19 teams and 130 runners competing for the title.
The Warriors were led by seniors Enrique Soto and James Taylor who both earned AA All-state honors.
Soto ran a 15:22 which was the fifth fastest time in all classes earning him composite All-state honors for the third-straight year. Soto battled Christian Johnson of Episcopal for the title. After leading for the first two miles, Soto was passed in the last 800 meters as Johnson won the title at 15:12.
Taylor ran a personal best of 16:27 which placed him ninth. This earned him AA All-state honors for the second-straight year.
Freshman Eric Greene placed 19th at 16:59. Riley Smith finished 58th at 18:55. Eighth-graders Alex Robles, Cody Robinson, and Joseph Johnson finished 63rd (19:02), 64th (19:04), and 69th (19:12).
Alissa Landers led the Lady Warriors with the outstanding performance of the day, as she took off one minute and 14 seconds from her personal best to set a new school record at 18:43 to finish third.
Landers' time was the 10th best of all the classes which earned her composite All-state honors along with her AA All-state spot. Landers finished fifth in 2011 in earning AA All-state honors.
Also running a personal best of 21:10 was Heather Schenck who finished 33rd. Senior Anna Davidson ended her Cross-Country career with a time of 21:47 for 45th. Katelynn Collier finished 49th at 22:03. Seventh graders Nancy Silva, Kizhane Esparza, and Brooke Walker finished 67th (22:57), 76th (23:41), and 87th (24:31) respectively.
Several runners will now participate in some national meets with Coach Dan Grantham accompanying them.
