Officers find drug residue at front door

Officers find drug residue at front doorSweeping off the front door step could have saved a Minden couple from extra drug charges after police officers discovered marijuana residue by their front door.

Timothy Kimmons, 20, and Jessica Kirksey, 26, both of the 300 block of Bailey Street, were arrested by Minden Police on charges of distribution and possession of CDS Sch. I (marijuana).

Police Chief Steve Cropper said Lt. Danny Weaver, Sgt. Heath Balkom, Sgt. Chris Cheatham, Sgt. Wayne Young and Off. Chris Hammontree arrived on the couple's doorstep early Thursday with arrest warrants in hand.

"When officers knocked on the door and when the door was opened, officers looked down and immediately in front of the front door, in plain view was marijuana residue," Cropper said.

Both were reportedly arrested and advised of their rights and then officers asked and received permission to search the residence.

"Once inside the residence, officers located 234 grams of marijuana with a street value of around $1,120," Cropper said. "So additional charges were placed on both subjects."

Kimmons was charged with three counts of distribution of marijuana, according to the original warrant. After marijuana was found in the residence, he was also reportedly charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Kirksey's original warrant was for one count of possession of marijuana. She was also charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Both were booked at the Minden Police Department and transferred to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
