Four Webster Parish teams make the cut
The LHSAA basketball playoff pairing were announced Thursday, and four Webster Parish teams will be taking part.
The Minden High Crimson Tide, the North Webster Knights and both teams from Doyline. The Minden High Lady Tiders just missed the cut as the #34 team in the girls' 4A Power Rankings.
Minden High Crimson Tide
The Minden Crimson Tide will head south on Tuesday, as they take on the #13 ranked Salmen Spartans.
"Salmen is a very talented team," Tide head coach Alan Shaw said. "This is a very tough draw for a first-round game."
The Tide traveled to Salmen two years ago and we're eliminated on the Spartans run to the state semi-finals.
Salmen is primarily an out-side shooting team that will spread the floor and take the three-point shot.
"They are very talented and guard oriented," Shaw said. "They shoot a lot of threes. In fact, they shoot more threes than twos. And they make a lot of them."
Shaw says his team knows they have their work cut out for them.
"We're just going to keep preparing and do what we can to match up with them. They will be a tough team to beat, but if we shoot the ball well and defend their three-point shooting, we have a chance."
The Tide and Spartans will play Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in Salmen. Tickets are $6.
The winner will take on the winner of the #4 Northside and #29 Tuerlings Catholic game.
The Doyline Panthers and Lady Panthers will both make playoff appearances.
The #23 seeded Panthers will travel to Jennings to take on the #10 seed Hathaway Hornets at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
The winner will play the winner of #7 Anacoco and #26 Grand Lake.
The Lady Panthers, seeded #15, will host #18 Grace Christian on Monday at 6 p.m. The winner will play the winner of #2 Fairview and #31 Zwolle.
North Webster Knights
The North Webster Knights will host their district rivals, the Evangel Eagles Tuesday night.
The Knights are the ninth seeded 2A team, while the Eagles are #24.
The winner of this game will take on the winner of the #8 Winnfield and #25 Oakdale game.
The Glenbrook Apaches are still playing in the MAIS playoffs and will play Franklin Academy at 2:15 p.m. today in Rayville.
