Mr. Lawrence McKinsey was born April 16, 1924 in Gibsland to Clarence and Beatrice McKinsey. At an early age, he joined Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Dubberly.
Mr. Lawrence served God by helping others in the community, and he was admired and respected by his friends, both young and old.
Lawrence was no stranger to hard work. He would leave home before sunrise and not return until dusk because he usually worked 12 hours per day to provide for his family. Mr. Lawrence owned a small pulpwood business, and worked at Sidewinder and Gifford Hill Industries. After retirement, he became an entrepreneur selling fried pork skins to people in the community.
In 1954, Lawrence married Bessie Davis, and they had five children. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie; daughter, Connie Joyner; step-son, John Holloway; sister, Mattie Franklin; brothers, Otis and Cecil McKinsey; and his parents, Clarence and Beatrice McKinsey.
He leaves to cherish his memories a son, Mr. Benny McKinsey (Arneada) of Dubberly; Mrs. Anne Shaw (Reggie) of Cotton Valley; Min. Jeanette Taylor (Larry) of Haughton; Dr. Beatrice McKinsey of Minden; and a brother, J.D. McKinsey (Honey) of Baton Rouge.
He also leaves 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 11 a.m. at House Prayer. Interment will follow in Theus Cemetery under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home.
Visitation will be today from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. at Benevolent Funeral Home.
