NATCHITOCHES — The Lakeside Warriors scored a run in the top of the first to take an early lead over St. Mary on Saturday and went on to win 12-2.
"That was our best ball game of the year," Lakeside coach Bob Gray said. "It was great to see us play that well."
Warrior starting pitcher Austin Ashley turned in an outstanding performance as he took the win for Lakeside. Ashley pitched a complete game seven inning allowing just four hits and two earned runs. He also struck out six batters.
Seven Warriors combined to total 12 base hits. Chase Woodall led the way with three singles, and Coulson White and Luke Griffith each added a double and a single, with Griffith driving in a run.
Jake Gray had a pair of singles and a RBI and Cameron Corely doubled and drove in two runs. Thomas Lambert doubled and Josh Prince had a RBI-single.
The Warriors first run came in the first inning as Ashley walked and came around to score. In the third, the Warriors added three more runs.
Woodall and Gray both singled with one out, and Lambert walked to load the bases. Prince would then reach on an error, scoring Woodall. Gray and Lambert would both later score on St. Mary errors.
Lakeside scored three more in the fourth on a Woodall RBI-single, and an error and a wild pitch.
In the sixth, the Warriors scored three times to improve their lead to 10-0. On run scored on an error and Corely would drive in two with a double.
The Warriors' final two runs came in the top of the seventh to make the final score 12-2.
