Ullrike “Ricky” Evelyn Gay

GayToday we celebrate the life of Ullrike “Ricky” Evelyn Gay.  Ricky was a child of God and a friend of Jesus. Ricky left her temporary earthly home May 9, 2011 in Heidleberg, Germany and is now rejoicing in her eternal home in Heaven.

Memorial services will be held in Hemsbach Germany May 27, 2011.  Klaus Heinrich Albertsen will officiate.

Ricky was born March 14, 1947 in Manheim, Germany.  She was the younger of two children born to Hilde and Kurt Wanger.  Ricky and her older brother Peter enjoyed growing up in the city of Manheim. Her parents owned a store and she enjoyed visiting with the American customers who would come in to shop.  Ricky was always creative and loved designing window fronts.

Ricky and her family moved to the United States in 1978.  She grew fond of her new life in the country.  She liked riding horses and spending time with family and friends.  She enjoyed working in her yard and loved the endless summer days.

After spending 13 years in Minden, Ricky moved to Hemsbach, Germany.  Back home she took pleasure in gardening, studying the Bible, “coffee time” and walking with her friends.  She looked forward to her visits back to the states where she would spend time with her children and grandchildren. She cherished the summers at the beach and seeing family at Christmas time.

Once diagnosed with cancer almost two years ago, Ricky never lost faith.  She seized this opportunity to win as many people over to Christ as possible.  Ricky wanted others to know of the hope she had in Jesus Christ.  She would give people she met in hospitals and doctor’s offices a copy of “Psalm 91,” a scripture she would recite frequently when she needed comfort.  In a letter dated March 22, 2011, Ricky wrote “I spend a lot of time talking to God.  He is the only one who can comfort me, take away my fears, and wipe away my tears.”

She is reunited with her mother, Hilde Wanger; her father, Kurt Wanger; and her brother, Peter Wanger.  She will be missed by her daughter and best friend, Petra Barber and husband, David Barber of Shreveport; her son, Patrick Gay of Minden; and grandchildren, Claire Barber, Camille Barber and Caroline Barber.

Memorials may be given in honor of Ricky to Andrew Womack Ministries, P.O. Box 3333, Colorado Springs, CO 80934-3333.
