Arrested were Earl A. Pauley, 38, of Minden and Randal C. Person, 32, for felony theft and criminal trespassing, according to Sheriff Gary Sexton.
“Our office dispatched Sgt. Don Willis to private property in Doyline where a complainant had found a vehicle on the side of the road where he knew people had been trespassing on his property,” Sexton said. “The landowner pulled in behind them as they were coming off his property, dragging wire that belonged to him.”
Sexton said when the landowner confronted the two men – Pauley and Person – they admitted they had been fishing on the property.
“They said they saw the wire just laying out there and didn’t think it would hurt anything if they took it,” the sheriff said.
“They were in the process of loading up when Sgt. Willis arrived and asked them if it was their wire. They said it was not, which was a confession that they had taken it, knowing it was not theirs.”
Sexton said Person is on probation for a felony charge of driving while intoxicated and also has a record for theft.
He said Pauley also has a criminal history.
Both men were charged and transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
