Lady Panthers shine at Region 1B meet

The Doyline Lady Panthers took part in the Region 1B Track Meet and came away with a number of impressive finishes.

The Lady Panthers qualified for the state meet in 12 events, seven more than last year.

“It was probably one of our best performances in a long time at a Regional,” Lady Panther coach Michael Normand said. “We’re really proud of the outcome, the girls worked really hard.”

The Lady Panthers finished second in the meet, just two points behind first place Weston.

“We did really well,” Normand said. “We didn’t have a lot of first place finishes, but we had a number of second and thirds. So that added up the points. We’ll compete in 12 events at the state meet, so it’s going to be a busy day.”

The Class B & C State Meet will be held at LSU next Thursday, May 5.

Meet results:

Shelby Waln finished first in the shot put (35’ 11”) and third in the discus.

Sharell Dawson finished second in the javelin.
