Team to host Mid-South Regional Tourney in August
The Minden American Legion team has gotten off to a bit of a rough start at 5-9, but head coach Kirby Moore said his team has been turning things around.
“We’ve been playing really well lately,” he said. “The guys are really coming around.”
The team hopes to gel before hosting the Mid-South Regional Tournament in August.
Minden will play Bossier tonight at 7 p.m. at Griffith Stadium.
“We’re going to be playing a pretty tough, stacked up team,” Moore said. “Tonight’s game will be a seven-inning game and then we will host OCS this Friday at 6 p.m. in another seven inning game.”
Moore’s line-up features five players hitting .333 or better. Cody Davis from Haughton, Matt Warren from Riverdale, Dewey Kendrick from Glenbrook and Caleb Moore and Bo Parker from Minden High lead the offense.
“The guys have been really hitting the ball well,” Moore said. “And on defense, Caleb has made some really good plays at shortstop and Dewey, Bo Jerrell Jackson and Kevin Guin have really run down just about everything in the outfield.”
Pitching, as always, is a key for Minden.
“We have some depth on the mound,” Moore said. “Cody Boyd has been throwing strikes out there and keeping our opponents off balance. And Jerrell is probably our youngest pitcher and he just keep getting better every time he goes out there. He went eight innings the other day in Texarkana and held down a very good team. We also have a number of other guys that can give us some quality innings.”
