"And seeing the multitudes, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and downcast like sheep without a shepherd." Matthew 9:36 NASB
As Jesus went about His normal everyday routine, going from town to town, He saw a hurting and depressed people and felt a deep concern for their well-being. Instead of being oblivious to the multitudes around Him, He took note of their condition. He saw that they were "distressed and downcast."
They were fatigued and fainted under the burdens they carried. They were grieved and neglected with no one to care for them. Like sheep without a shepherd, they were wandering aimlessly and in constant danger. Jesus felt the strong and intense emotion of compassion for these suffering people.
Lord Jesus, the people in my community, country, and the world are suffering and are distressed and downcast. Help me to feel and show Your compassion for those in need.
