A call from a concerned citizen over possible gambling turned into a drug arrest for Minden Police.
Robert Joe Allums, 20, of the 100 block of Hidden Ranch Road was arrested for possesion of CDS Sch. I (marijuana) with intent to distribute.
"The call was concerning some men at a residence on Peach Street who may have been doing some illegal gambling on the front porch," said Minden Police Chief Steve Cropper. "Off. Danny Turner went to that location and when he pulled up to the residence, he saw several males on the front porch."
Cropper said Turner exited his vehicle and approached the porch.
"Of course, they started picking up stuff off the floor and putting it in their pockets," Cropper said. "He (Turner) asked them what they were doing, and they indicated they weren't doing anything, but it was pretty obvious they were doing some type of gambling on the front porch."
Cropper said Turner saw Allums kick off his shoes.
"That raised a red flag with the officer," Cropper said. "He thought he might be about to flee on foot."
Turner stopped the suspect and reportedly patted him down for officer safety.
"Turner noticed something in the man's pocket and asked him if he had anything illegal," Cropper said. "Allums 'smarted off' that 'yeah, he did,' and Turner had him empty his pockets."
When Allums did so, Turner reportedly found a substance that was suspected to be CDS Sch. I (marijuana) in one pocket.
"In another pocket, he found $740 in cash," Cropper said. "The money was taken into evidence and turned over to narcotics officers. We will probably do a seizure on the money."
According to reports, no one was arrested or charged with gambling.
