The Mt.Lebanon Historical Society would like to extend an invitation for all patriots to join us in the annual flag raising ceremony to be held at eight a.m. on Monday morning, July 4, at the Stagecoach Trail Museum located at the crossroads in Mt. Lebanon at Hwy.154 and Hwy 517.
Our speaker for the ceremony will be Colonel Carl V. Thompson, Jr. of Minden, Louisiana. Colonel Thompson is a lifelong resident of Louisiana having been born in Claiborne Parish.
He served in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Air Force Reserve for 12 years and the Louisiana Army National Guard for 24 years. He retired from the National Gaurd in the grade of Lieutenant Colonel.
He began serving the Louisiana Military Department in the Louisiana State Guard in 2001 as colonel in the position of Deputy Installation Commander and Forester at the Camp Minden Training Site.
In 2008 Colonel Thompson became the Forestry Program Manager and Specail Projects Officer at Camp Minden where he serves presently.
Colonel Thompson has received numerous service medals over the years. He also received the Minden Lion's Club Man of the Year award in 2010. He has been the Commander of the Wiley-Pevy
Post # 73 of the American Legion since July 2005 until present. He retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture with 29 years of service in April 1994.
