Drug buyer puts up a fight

North Webster Drug Task Force Agents brought down a Sarepta man on drug charges Wednesday, but he didn't go down without a fight.

Justin Shawn Sumner, 32, of the 800 block of Demnon Road, was arrested for possession of CDS Sch. III Hydrocodone and resisting an officer.

According to reports, task force agents, working with the aid of the Webster Parish District Attorney's Office and a confidential informant, arranged a buy bust in Sarepta, where agents were allowed to supply the informent with 19 Lortab pills.

Webster Parish Sheriff's Lt. Shawn Baker, Springhill Police Chief Will Lynd and Springhill detectives Brian Montgomery and Ronald Wedgeworth reportedly split up, with some hiding inside a Kelly Drive residence in Sarepta, while others staged at a nearby location.

"Sumner phoned the informant and advised her that he was on his way to pick up the 19 Lortab pills," Baker said. "He stated he had $35 and would have to pay the rest owed on the pills at a later date."

Baker said that when Sumner arrived at the residence and completed the transaction, agents moved in to arrest him.

"He (Sumner) struck Det. Wedgeworth with a closed fist strike to the face," Baker said. "We shouted for him to get on the ground, but he refused all verbal commands."

Sumner reportedly struggled with arresting officeres until he was finally handcuffed behind his back and advised of his Miranda rights.

The 19 Hydrocodone pills were reportedly recovered in Sumner's right front pants pocket, and the $35 was recovered from the informant.

Sumner was booked into Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center. His bond amount was not immediately known.
