Lace up your running shoes; Minden's annual Run for St. Jude will be held February 2 and entry forms are now available.
In its fifth year, the run raises money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
"The event was the idea of Danita Rentz and Judilyn Wise as a way to raise more money for St. Jude," said Jennifer Thomas, race chairwoman. "These races are popular in this area and they thought this would be a great addition to the weekend of events."
What began as an auction held over KASO radio waves more than 50 years ago, has grown to worldwide auction, bringing in bids and raffle donations from all over the country and even one from Australia.
Today, the weekend of the auction holds many events, such as the Run for St. Jude, where proceeds are donated to St. Jude.
"All the money we receive from race applications goes directly to St. Jude," Thomas said. "Our race sponsors make donations that pay for the event and are showcased on the back of our official race shirt. We raised $14,000 last year and we continue to grow each year."
The race begins at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday February 2, at Minden Civic Center. Race options include 5 or 10K, and walkers are encouraged to participate in the cause.
Early registration is $20, with a deadline of Saturday, January 26. Registration will be $25 after the early deadline has past.
Entry forms are available at Al-N-Way Cleaners on Homer Road or online at sportspectrumusa.com.
Overall male and female winners for the 5K and 10K will receive $100 and a medal for first place, $50 and a medal for 2nd place and $25 and a medal for 3rd place.
