A Minden man was seriuously injured in a one-vehicle accident on U.S. Hwy. 79 Thursday when the vehicle in which he was riding struck a culvert and overturned.
According to Louisiana State Police Troop G reports, the accident took place about nine miles south of La. Hwy. 9, in Claiborne Parish around 9 a.m.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2004 Nissan Frontier driven by 28-year-old Jodie Brazzel of Athens was traveling south on U.S. Hwy. 79 when it exited the roadway to the left, struck a concrete culvert and overturned.
Brazzel reportedly was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected. He sustained moderate injuries.
The passenger, 50-year-old Barry Adkins of Minden was also not wearing his seat belt during the crash was trapped inside the vehicle. Troopers said Adkins sustained life-threatening injuries.
Both Brazzel and Adkins were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
According to reports, impairment is a suspected factor in this crash. A toxicology sample was obtained and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
