Glenbrook tops Riverfield

MONROE — The Glenbrook Apaches scored a first-round win in the River Oaks Tournament with a 58-36 decision over Riverfield Academy Thursday night in Monroe.

"I thought we played pretty well," Glenbrook head coach Todd Spurlock said. "We had a little bit of a slow start, but we came out in the second quarter and controlled the game."

The Apaches led 12-4 after the first quarter and then led 29-13 at the half. Glenbrook out-scored Riverfield 16-14 in the third quarter to take a 45-27 lead into the fourth quarter. The Apaches then took the fourth, 13-9, to close out the game.

The Apaches' defense turned in an impressive 30 steals in the game.

"I think we got more than half of our points off of transition," Spurlock said. "And that's what we have to do to be successful and to be the team we want to be this year. We have to get out and run, push the ball up the floor and score a lot of early baskets in transition."

Jalen Patterson led the Apaches with 26 points. He also added eight rebounds and seven steals. Maurice Moore scored 13 points, pulled down 14 rebounds and added seven steals. Regan Edwards scored six points and had 11 rebounds and eight steals, and Cade Spurlock had 10 rebounds and five points.

Along with the 30 steals, the Apaches out-rebounded Riverfield, 44-17.

"Our defense stepped up for us last night," Spurlock said. "We got a lot of key rebounds.. I'm still concerned about us missing too many shots, but Mo (Moore) was able clean those up for us tonight."

The Apaches will play Claiborne Academy today in the semi-finals.
