Police seek man in armed theftMinden Police have little to go on as they track down an armed robbery suspect.
According to reports, around 7 p.m. Monday an unidentified white male walked into a hotel/motel on Sibley Road and demanded money from the clerk.
"The man is unrecognizable on the video," said Minden Police Chief Steve Cropper. "We do have an eyewitness who saw him walking across the parking lot from a convenience store just prior to the robbery."
The witness told police the suspect is a white male, wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and a dark-colored ball cap.
"When he walked past, the eyewitness could see the suspect had facial hair but not a full beard ... more like a two- or three-day growth," said the chief.
The suspect reportedly pulled the sweatshirt over a portion of his face as he walked into the hotel lobby.
"He leaned over the counter and held his hand in a manner that led the clerk to believe he had a gun," Cropper said. "He held it over the top of her and told her he wanted the money. She opened the register and gave him an undisclosed amount of cash."
The chief said the suspect is on video leaving the establishment.
"We lost him on the camera and have no idea where he went when he walked out the door," Cropper said. "We just know he turned north (toward Minden). The eyewitness never saw him walk back across the lot of the convenience store, so we don't believe he walked on the roadway."
If anyone has information concerning the robber or robbery, call the Minden Police Department at 371-4226 or 377-1212.
This was the second armed robbery for police investigators in a three-hour period Monday.
Earlier in the day, police captured a man who robbed a woman in the parking lot of a health care provider's facility downtown.
Richard Smith III, 19, of the 200 block of West Union, was charged with armed robbery, after holding a gun on the woman and taking her purse.
Officers arrested Smith a short time later.
