Now, three of those Minden players have been honored with spots on the LHSAA Class 4A All-State teams.
Derek Herrington, Turner Francis, and McCaul Lacobee were all recognized by the state's coaches. Herrington was named First-Team All-State, and Francis and Lacobee were named to the Honorable Mention Team.
Herrington, a senior, led the Crimson Tide with a .596 batting average this season, along with seven home runs and 58 RBIs. Herrington was also Minden's #1 pitcher, as he turned in a mark of 9-1 with 60 strikeouts on the mound. Herrington was also chosen as the District 1-4A Player of the Year, and has signed to play baseball at LSU-Eunice next season.
Francis, just a sophomore, formed a terrific one-two punch with herrington as he batted .456 with 30 RBIs and a home run as the Crimson Tide's clean-up batter. Francis had two wins as a pitcher an helped anchor a strong Minden infield defense. Francis was named First-Team All-District for the second year in a row.
Junior left-hander Lacobee batted .430 with one home run and 34 runs scored in his first season with the Crimson Tide. Lacobee had three wins and a save as a pitcher and played first base and in the outfield. Lacobee has a distinction of being recognized as an All-State member in Class C, B, and now 4-A baseball.
Minden's outstanding regular season did not go unnoticed by district 1-4A coaches, as coach Dean Francis was named District 1-4A Coach of the Year. Francis led Minden to a perfect 10-0 record in district, 26-6 overall and a state quarterfinalist.
"The team worked very hard this season and had a great senior class with lots of leadership," coach Francis said. "The boys stayed focused all year and gave their best effort every time they took the field. We have a really good bunch of younger guys coming up for next year that helped make our starters work hard this year. I believe we will be knocking at the door for a state championship again next year. I would like to thank all the parents, sponsors, and Minden High fan base for all the help and support they have giving us this year."
