Glenbrook Apaches wins South State

HEIDELBERG, MS. -The Glenbrook Apaches traveled to Heidelberg Academy on Friday, needing to win one of two games to take the Class A South State Title.

The Apaches lost the first game, 3-0, and then beat Heidelberg, 6-2 to take the South State Championship.

Up next for the Apaches, a best two-out-of-three series with Winona Christian School for the Overall Class State Championship.

In the deciding game, Apache started Logan Clark pitched a gem as he pitched the Apaches to the win.

"Logan did an excellent job," Glenbrook head coach Jonathan Hardy said. "He pitched like he has all year long. He was determined to go all seven innings. You have to have a guy like that, someone you can hand the ball to and you feel like he's going to win the game for you. Logan is that guy for us."

Clark allowed one earned run and four hits in seven innings, while striking out 12.

"He pitched a heck of a game," Hardy said.

Jacob White had a pair of hits and Connor Clark, Spencer White and Caleb Wilson all had RBI-singles. Conner Copeland doubled and Austin Palmier added a single.

In the first game, the Apaches could only muster four hits and lost to Heidelberg, 3-0.

"Their guy threw the ball real well," Hardy said. "He had a good slider and he just kept us off balance the whole way. It was just a situation where we were off balance physically and mentally."

Logan Clark and Palmier each had two hits for the Apaches. Spencer White started on the mound for Glenbrook and went the first four innings allowing just one earned run and three hits, while striking out four. Palmier threw the final three innings, allowing no runs and striking out two.

The Apaches will face Winona Christian School for the MAIS Class A State Championship.

The series will be a best-two-out-of-three series. Game 1 will be played Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Glenbrook, and Game 2 (and Game 3 if necessary) will be played in Winona on Saturday.
