Springhill native is 2012 Scholar in Communication

The LSU Shreveport Department of Communications is pleased to announce the spring 2012 Scholars in Communication.

Students are selected by the faculty from mass communication and speech majors who have records of outstanding academic achievement and professional accomplishment.

Each student receives a monetary scholarships supplied by royalties from the sale of the public speaking textbook, Introduction to Public Speaking. Four scholars have been named for the spring 2012 semester.

Mary Spring, a senior focusing on theatre from Springhill, who will graduate in May, has appeared in several Black Box Theatre productions at LSUS and is serving as secretary for Lambda Pi Eta.

"I have always worked very hard to keep up my GPA, but after transferring to LSUS and realizing what I really wanted to study, being a good student became much more satisfying for me," Spring said.

"I enjoy learning and have had some wonderful professors to help me stay focused," she continued.
