Tide falls to North Caddo at Haughton Tournament

HAUGHTON — The Minden High Crimson Tide played North Caddo Wednesday night in the first round of the Haughton Tournament.

The Tide fought back from a 15-point deficit to tie the game with just two minutes remaining, but the Rebels were able to pull out a 57-52 win over the Tide.

"We battled back and tied the game," Minden head coach Alan Shaw said. "But then they made some free throws and we missed a couple of opportunities there in the last couple of minutes and we just couldn't pull it out in the end."

North Caddo led 15-10 after the first quarter and then 31-23 at the half due to some Minden mistakes.

"We missed a ton of free throws in the first half," Shaw said. "We missed eight, and we ended up down eight points at the half, so that was a big issue for us. We played pretty well defensively in the first half, but we struggled shooting the ball. We struggled to score despite getting a lot of good looks. we just couldn't get the ball in the basket."

North Caddo out-scored Minden 17-10 in the third quarter and then the Tide rallied to take the fourth, 19-11.

Dominique Walker led the Tide with 20 points (five three-pointers) and Jared Johnson scored 10. Vittorio Davis, Tray Hawkins and Tra Thornton each score six.

"One of our issues right now is that we haven't put together a complete ball game," Shaw said. "We're still playing spurts. We have moments when we play well and then we go dry, especially offensively. That hurt us against Lakeside, and against Homer and again last night. I think it's a matter of getting some consistency and I think when we do that, we'll be much better."

The Tide is still breaking in a number of new and first-year players, which can led to early-season struggles.

"We're real young and we don't have a lot of guys with varsity experience," Shaw said. "But they're playing hard and they're giving me great effort. We just need to keep working hard and put together four solid quarters."

The Tide will be back in action in haughton this afternoon with a 4:30 p.m. game with Plain Dealing.
