Minden’s Turner Francis signs with LSU-E

Minden’s Turner Francis signs with LSU-E

Minden High shortstop and pitcher Turner Francis will continue his baseball career next year at LSU-Eunice. He follows former teammate Derrick Herrington, who just finished at LSU-E.

"It feels great because I didn't know where I was going this time last year, and it's good to get this off my back," Francis said. "I went to a showcase this winter, and (LSU-E) liked me and was interested. It's going to be a change, but he's got me ready."

The "He" Francis refered to is his father and head coach Dean Francis.

"It's just an honor for a coach and in this case a dad that coaches his son," coach Francis said. "A coach's job is to try to get as many to the next level as you can. This has been a goal for Turner to go to the next level and play at LSU-E . This was the school of his choice and when they wanted him to come down and play it was a dream come true. It seems that the opportunity to play at the next level is getting harder and harder so with him going to play at the next level is a great opportunity and another chapter in his life."

Francis hit .539 with 44 runs batted in this season, as he was named co-MVP in District 1-4A. After playing shortstop the last two seasons, Francis expects to play second or third at LSU-E.

Francis will also join four other area players in the Louisiana High School Coaches Association All-Star baseball games to be held May 30-31 at North Park in Denham Springs. Joining Francis on the West team include Benton pitchers Jordan Shaffer and Aaron Henigan, Evangel infielder Miller Parker and Natchitoches Central pitcher Connor Collins.
