Bertha Mae Germany

OBIT088Funeral services for Sister Bertha Mae Germany will be held Saturday, Dec, 29, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. John Divine Church in Heflin. Burial will follow at Brown Cemetery in Heflin.

Visitation is today (Friday, Dec. 28, 2012 from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. at Benevolent Funeral Home.

Sister Bertha was born Oct. 25, 1931 to Rev. William Solomon and Lizzie Mae Jackson-Solomon. She departed this earthly life on Dec. 18, 2012.

Bertha accepted Christ in her life at an early age. She first joined Mt. Pisby Baptist Church in Homer. She later joined Mt. Elam Baptist Church in Heflin. She was an active member until her health failed.

Early in life, Bertha married Ellis Broadway and to this union three children were born, Leon, Gloria and Annie Broadway. They later divorced and Bertha was blessed with two boys, Roy Montgomery and James W. Robertson.

Bertha later married Charlie C. Germany and was blessed with six children, Charlie, Burt, Edna, Jimmy, Richard and Clara.

Bertha was a hard-working woman who believed that her family should always come first. She encouraged her children, and she was always there during the difficult times as well as the good times. Bertha always made sure her family had plenty of love, food and care. Bertha enjoyed life, especially with her family. She loved to sing in her church choir, cook and clean.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. William Solomon and Lizzie Mae Jackson-Solomon; five sisters, Rosie Allen, Kattie Bell Solomon, Annie T. Mack, Louise Huey and Susie Mae Tellis; and two children, Edna B. Germany and Charlie B. Germany.

Bertha leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Gloria (M.K) Cook of Shreveport, Annie Shelton of Heflin and Clara Germany of Texas City, Texas; six sons, Leon (Cora) Broadway of St. Augustine, Texas, Roy (Juanita) Montgomery of Heflin James W. Robertson, Burt and Jimmy Germany of Shreveport and Richard Germany of Denver, Colorado; two brothers: Willie, Sr. (Eunice) Solomon of Heflin and Dezzie Solomon of Heflin; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.
